  • Craft ideas and Caleb’s fourth Birthday

Today is Caleb’s fourth birthday.  What a privilege to be the proud parents of this beautiful boy!  Full of boisterous intensity, he has been non-stop entertainment since the day he was born.  Thank you God for four years with our precious son!

    Mischievous grin

And one of Jackson, so he doesn’t feel left out!

We celebrated his birthday by having him open his gift today – a cowboy costume (which he insisted on wearing with his camouflage- he really thinks that they go together) And we made a ‘cake’ out of chocolate chip pancakes and sang Happy Birthday to him. Then Jackson started crying.  Jealousy maybe?  He cheered up when he got a few pancakes of his own.

And here is  the plate we served it on. This was a MOPs craft from a while ago that I forgot to post. Buy plain glass plates (dessert size) at Bed  Bath and Beyond…I think it was less than $10 for a box of 8. I found glass enamel paint at JoAnns.  You have to paint on the back of the plate because the paint is not foodsafe.  Draw your design with a dry erase pen on the front of the plate first (because I’m no good at drawing words backwards!) then paint it on the back. You have to think in reverse a bit…paint the words happy birthday first and then paint the green background over it, since that’s the way you want it to show up on the front side of the plate.  You let it dry for 48 hours and then stick it in a cool oven and bake it at 350 for 30 minutes.  Let it cool in the oven.  Voila! You have your very own custom plate for about $2.  The paint is supposed to be dishwasher safe, but I wouldn’t risk it :)

And here is our new diaper bag for Miriam :)   I added the darling  ribbon , which goes with the hot pink interior of the bag.  The tag I made was another MOPs craft – Shrinky Dink bag tags.  You can find Shrinky Dink paper in the scrapbook section of Michaels.  Use the Ruff n Ready. It’s about $1/sheet and this one took half a sheet of paper (a 50 cent craft?!!) We used good quality markers on the  rough side of the paper (again, you have to draw your design with dry erase marker on the front side first, then color it in on the back)  Cut it out and make a hole in it.  You will need to punch at least three holes with a standard sized hole punch to get a ribbon through it (it shrinks to 1/3 it’s size!)  Then bake it in the oven on a cookie sheet at 325 for 1-3 minutes.  Immediately take it out and flatten it until cool (30 seconds)  Makes a great and very durable bag tag!  It is very thick and sturdy.

And here is another MOPs craft we did…I’m very behind in posting these!  These are burp cloths we decorated with designer fabric.  Cheaper to make them than to buy at the expensive boutique store! I bought Wonder Under from the interfacing section at JoAnns fabric store.  Measure and cut a strip the size of the center of the burp cloth in both the Wonder Under and the fabric.  Lay the fabric face down on your ironing board and put the rough side of the wonder under against the fabric.  Iron and hold for 8 seconds to fuse the wonder under to the fabric.  Let cool and then peel the paper off of the wonder under webbing.  Turn over your fabric and lay it on the burp cloth and iron and hold for 10 seconds, to fuse the fabric to the burp cloth.  That’s it!  All done :)   They say you can wash it and it will stay on.  I was inspired and came home and added the ribbon along each side, as you see here, which I sewed on.  They turned out very cute.  Burp cloths were on sale at Babies R Us for buy one get one half off, so they worked out to about $1 a burp cloth.  The wonder under cost very little per each burp cloth and the fabric was also relatively cheap.  Probably less than $2 a burp cloth after it was all said and done.  Hope you are inspired to get crafty!  If you have any other cheap and easy crafts, let me know.  I’m always looking for new ideas!!
